Motionless in White, salah satu band metalcore favoritku, baru aja ngerilis single baru yang penuh amarah. Lumayan kontras sih, soalnya setelah sebelumnya mereka rilis lagu yang agak mellow, kali ini mereka langsung gas ngamuk-ngamuk.
Playing God jadi salah satu track yang bakal masuk ke album terbaru mereka, yang direncanakan rilis tanggal 17 Juli 2026. Di sini, Chris Cerulli nggak nyanyi sendirian, tapi digandeng langsung sama Corey Taylor, vokalis legendaris Slipknot. Nggak heran kalau banyak reactor musik di YouTube yang bilang ada vibe-vibe khas Slipknot di beberapa bagian instrumen lagunya.
Tema lagu ini relate banget sama zaman sekarang, kritik pedas buat pengguna medsos yang makin hari makin nggak karuan. Mulai dari akun bot, buzzer, sampai rage baiter yang cuma cari atensi dan engagement murahan.
Bagian yang paling aku suka adalah pas masuk chorus. Gahar, langsung ngena, dan to the point banget ngamuknya.

Lagu ini kayak mewakili suara banyak orang yang udah mulai jengah sama kondisi medsos sekarang. Penuh kebohongan, hate speech, budaya toxic, sama rage bait di mana-mana.
Di potongan video yang sempat aku screenshot, Chris juga jelasin langsung latar belakang kenapa lagu ini tercipta.
Social media has incentivized the populace to rage bait, farm, lie, and share their meaningless hot takes to stimulate their digital economy, and I understand that, but It doesn't make it any less disheartening to witness how many people choose to participate in it. Everything I wrote above is just a small fraction of a much bigger picture, but no one wants to read beyond a page, so that's all I got for now. Don't get it twisted, I agree that everyone is, in fact, entitled to their opinion, but this song is focused on the very distinct line between an opinion and a bunch of hollow, self indulgent words with absolutely no real conviction, meant only to create engagement and stir the pot. I don't want everything to be sunshine and rainbows and love, I just want people to shut the fuck up and focus on shit that would bring actual fulfillment to their lives.

Intinya, meski cadas, lagu ini keren banget, apalagi pesan yang dibawanya. Cobain deh dengerin sekali, meskipun biasanya nggak doyan lagu berat. Anggep aja sesi "nyiksa kuping" sesekali π€£.
Tapi kalau emang prefer yang lebih soft, MIW juga punya banyak lagu yang lebih kalem yang worth it buat dijelajahi.
